Anyone who knows me knows how much I love Christmas—the lights, the music, the togetherness. No matter where life’s journey leads, Christmas remains the same for me. The sparkles, sounds, treats, traditions, and decorations are like a warm blanket for my soul.
Deeper than that though, the holiday season feels so comforting because, no matter where life takes me—and it’s taken me around the world—it has a way of bringing out the best in people.
Life’s journey has given me the gift of experiencing different cultures, religions, and diverse people. During this season, whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or other celebrations, there’s a shared sense of joy and kindness that connects us all. It’s a spirit we should carry with us year-round.
Let me explain.
Last night, I got a flat tire—a small moment that reminded me I haven’t had time to build connections in my new town yet. I didn’t have anyone to call except my insurance company.
Even so, there were warm blanket moments:
The kind tow truck driver who made sure I stayed warm while my car was being towed.
The car mechanic who was reassuring and genuinely helpful.
The empathetic Lyft driver who shared that the same thing had happened to them, making me feel less alone.
Each of these kind souls came from different cultures and backgrounds, yet they all showed compassion to a complete stranger.
In a world where it’s easy to focus on what’s wrong, this holiday season, I’m choosing to see the good in people—the helpers, the kind souls, and the unexpected connections that remind us we’re never truly alone—and that is a warm blanket for us all.
